Shout out to Pamela A Smith who was selected and has now been officially confirmed as the new police chief! She will be makes history as the 1st black woman to run the agency!
Pamela joined the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia May 2022 after a 24 year career at the United States Park Police Department.
Mayor Muriel Bowser displayed progressive thinking in regard to selecting Smith who earned her bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Arkansas and her certificate in criminal justice education from the University of Virginia. Chief Smith is uniquely qualified for the this position. She has the perfect combination of experience for this job.
